Mother Goose

I recently sewed Edmund a cloth "Mother Goose" book from a printed panel I picked up at the Hickory Stick Quilt & Gift Shop in Hannibal, MO. The illustrations are reprints from the 1920s or 1930s and each page contains a short nursery rhyme. This simple project was made more difficult by the fact that the panels were not quite printed on the grain, which I discovered during cutting. But, the end result is fine and what's more, Edmund is happy to have a book he can put in his mouth!

Provision

On my birthday, I received a phone call from a friend for whom I used to babysit. She had had a garage sale that day, clearing out her childrens' clothing, and wondered if I would like to go through the remaining boys clothes and find some things for Edmund? My mom and I went over yesterday and she showed us into the garage. There were so many adorable things, it was like walking into a children's boutique! (A very hot, muggy children's boutique with bikes and cars all around us, but nonetheless...) :-P I came away with two large bags full of high-quality 12 month to 2T sizes, which will go a long way toward clothing Edmund through the rest of the summer, fall, and (hopefully) winter. Not only that, but her tastes in children's clothing are similar to mine (classic and traditional). God is good!

Happy birthday to me

Yesterday I turned 27 and we had a lovely birthday dinner in the evening. My mom set a beautiful table with vintage china, pink linens, and a rose bouquet. I love this vintage salt and pepper shaker which belonged to my Great-Grandma Irene. You have to take the strawberry off its hook, and then the salt or pepper comes out of holes in the silver leaves.


I have been avoiding desserts in order to shed the remaining pregnancy pounds, so I thought long and hard about what would be worth the caloric indulgence as a birthday dessert. ;) I decided to make tiramisu since it's one of my favorite desserts and I have never made it from scratch before. I used the Pioneer Woman's recipe and it was delicious -- SO rich and flavorful. Yum. That's a once-a-year treat.

Gather ye rosebuds

We're currently enjoying a visit with my parents. I love being here in the summertime because their yard is particularly beautiful at this time of year. Mom has some David Austin roses that she planted the summer before I got married. We were hoping to use them in my bouquet but they didn't bloom in time.

My someday-garden will include plenty of these beauties. In the meantime I am enjoying them vicariously. Thanks, Mom!

A baby quilt

Not for my own baby, though. A friend commissioned me to make one for her to give as a gift to a little boy. I based the design off a quilt that was given to Edmund and found the cute nautical fabrics at Jo-Ann Fabrics.


This was really the first quilt I've ever made, start to finish, and it gave me a good excuse to try out my new walking foot.

Edmund in the spring

Welcome to my "new" blog! It's good to be back. I enjoyed my break but I'm ready to start posting again. I hope you like the new design... that old minimalist template really had to go. A big thanks goes to my brilliant husband for helping me convert my design into something workable.

Well! It's been over three months since I last posted. First things first. I haven't shared any pictures of Edmund since he was six weeks old -- so here are some six-month-old potraits.




Yes, those are two little teeth. They popped up the day after his five-month birthday.

What can I say? He's the greatest joy and blessing to Douglas and me. :)
