Spring vagaries

We had a spring thunderstorm a few days ago, and afterward, as the sun was setting, we went outside to marvel at the mammatus clouds. These happen every so often around here, after a storm.

Since then, we've had hail, sleet, and snow... and today, most of it's melted off again, and should be back up in the 60's by the weekend!

  2. Those are the best pictures of mammatus clouds I've ever seen. We don't generally get them here in Baltimore - I've only seen them here once, after one heck of a thunderstorm. I've always understood they're often associated with tornadic storms; is that true? Beautiful pictures.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth! I'm not sure if there were any tornadoes in the area before I took these pictures or not... at least, not near enough to us that any warnings or watches were issued. The storm was pretty severe, though. I do love spring rainstorms but the weather can get scary quickly!
